Disarmament Today Podcast on Explosive Weapons in Populated Areas

Over the last few years, 90% of the victims from the use of explosive weapons in populated areas have been civilians. November 18th, 2022 marked a huge milestone as states gathered in Dublin to endorse and support the political declaration on strengthening the protection of civilians and the humanitarian consequences arising from the use of explosive weapons in populated areas (EWIPA).

This podcast opens a discussion for how the international community, including states, civil society, and international organisations, can build momentum to address this issue. Hear from panellists why the Political Declaration is important, its key components and the difference that effective implementation can make.

Panellists include:

  • Juliana Helou van der Berg, Political Affairs Officer of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) Geneva Branch (Moderator)
  • Mélanie Régimbal, Chief of Service of the UN Office for Disarmament in Geneva
