Briefing on explosive weapons at the United Nations

On Thursday 20 October, INEW and Austria organised a briefing at the United Nations in advance of the next UN Security Council open debate on the Protection of Civilians. The event was co-hosted by Austrian Ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Christian Strohal and INEW Coordinator, Thomas Nash.

UNICEF Senior Adviser, Judy Grayson gave a presentation outlining the United Nation’s engagement on explosive weapons as well as the particular impact on children. INEW Coordinator, Richard Moyes presented on the explosive weapons as a whole, drawing on examples from recent field research in Libya.

Australia, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and the US all participated in the discussion, which again was thoughtful and positively oriented. France, Guatemala, Switzerland, ODA, UNHCR, Office of the SRSG for Children and Armed Conflict and several NGOs were also present.
