Reclaiming IHL for the Protection of Civilians, Oslo

On 15 June INEW Coordinator for Communications, Thomas Nash, spoke at a seminar on ‘Reclaiming IHL for the Protection of Civilians’ in Oslo. Thomas’ presentation is available to download on the right. Deputy Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide opened the event and mentioned explosive weapons prominently. Rachel Joyce of Oxford Research Group and Every Casualty also presented, as well as Dinah PoKempner, General Counsel for Human Rights Watch and Ingrid MacDonald, Head of Advocacy at Norwegian Refugee Council.

The seminar was aimed at providing input to a Norwegian initiative on IHL and protection of civilians that envisages a number of regional meetings bringing together relevant actors on this issue. INEW will continue to engage in this initiative in order to promote further understanding of the problems of explosive weapons in populated areas.
